Poster: Obon Festival, Celebrating Japanese Culture

This poster promotes Stockton's annual Obon Festival, celebrating Japanese culture and inviting the community to experience traditional performances, cuisine, and heritage.

With this project, I was tasked with creating an appealing layout with elements representing Japanese culture. I chose to use Bamboo shoots in the background as they are common in the country and haven’t been used in any previous posters. The yellow moon is a focus point to highlight the neko samurai, a fun interpretation of the “maneki-neko”, or lucky cat, which leads into the text about the event. I experimented with different lines, eventually creating curved lines to separate the information from the illustration. This poster captures the spirit of Obon, encouraging people to come together and celebrate the rich cultural traditions of Japan.
