Object Lessons Magazine Spread
Responsible Roots is a magazine spread designed for one of my classes as a way to investigate how one object can explore many different ideas around history, culture, and even deep emotions one may feel towards it.
For this project I chose to focus on my succulents, using it as a metaphor for my own personal growth. The title is a playful nod to this connection, blending the idea of maturity with the plant’s roots. To bring the plant to life for the viewer, I included a variety of shots—close-ups, wide angles, and size comparisons—making it feel present and tangible. Instead of a stark white background, I opted for a warm cream tone paired with a green gradient, evoking sunlight on the plant and adding a friendly, welcoming tone. I wanted my overall design to be very friendly and welcoming to the viewer, to experience why this plant is so important to me and even encourage them to get their own.
